and you could only get it at smaller, specialized stores. I have early 90s Alpines in my z (7909), and in my Galant VR4 (7903) and they work flawlessly. I dont care for todays flashy displays, and 50 bazillion features I dont want to take time to tweak for no better sound than the old simple units (when they were good, made in Japan). I have a newer Alpine (98 something) in my pickup, and its ok, nothing special. Kenwood is ok, but has been sold in huge numbers since the 90s, from Walmart to Circuit City, to Crutchfield. I am sure they are ok, still. I just prefer the old school stuff...
